Our first official practice is four weeks from today.  We will meet in the Aux Gym at 3:00pm.
For those who are new, practice is daily, Monday-Friday, and Saturday mornings for varsity.

February Sprint Training

Sprinters / Jumpers / Hurdlers

There is one month until practice officially starts.  You would be wise to get out to winter training as often as possible.  In February, I'm going to be providing as many opportunities as I can to help you prepare for the season.  I'm going to be at the track and in the weight room every day, including Saturdays until the season starts.  If it helps, pretend the season starts NOW.  See the February schedule below:

If you are a top returner, or someone who has big goals or is interested in relays, we need to be training and learning every day.  Don't be bashful.  Everyone is welcome, and no one is perfect at the perfect!

- Sprinting is a skill.  Everyone needs to learn how to sprint better.  If you can't sprint well, it is very hard to jump far, jump high, or to be a fast hurdler.
- There isn't a single athlete on the team who is a perfect sprinter, even the fastest ones.  What's important is that we are trying to get a little bit better at the drills and techniques involved every day, no matter where you start.
- Once the season starts, it becomes more difficult to build the skills, especially at the beginning -- the group becomes much larger.

February Schedule

MONDAY - 2:45 at Track; No Weight Room
TUESDAY - 2:45 at Track; 4:15 Weight Room
WEDNESDAY - 1:00 at Track; Weight Room After
THURSDAY - 2:45 at Track; 4:15 Weight Room
FRIDAY - 2:45 at Track; 4:15 Weight Room
SATURDAY - 10:00am; Weight Room After

EXTRA MORNING WEIGHT ROOM TIMES
MONDAY - 6:00am until school, come any time before school starts to lift or work on sprint technique.
WEDNESDAY - 6:00am until school, come any time before school starts to lift or work on sprint technique.
FRIDAY - 6:00am until school, come any time before school starts to lift or work on sprint technique.

This is a lot of opportunity.  I'm making the space and the coaching available.  It's up to you to take advantage.  Figure out a schedule that works for you.  If you have questions, please ask!

- Again, if it helps, pretend that track is starting right now.  The season is short, extend it by a month to give yourself an advantage.

IF YOU HAVE THEM, BRING YOUR SPRINT SPIKES EVERY DAY.  We won't use them every day, probably just three times, but you need to be in the habit of bringing them.
